The funeral service honoring and celebrating the life of Mr. Bob R. Meyer, 88, of Waukomis will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday December 16, 2016 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend John Hauser of Son Grace Music Ministries (SGMM) officiating and Pastor Carl Roberts of Grace Ministries Church Co-Officiating. The Graveside service will follow in the Waukomis Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home,400 W. The family will receive guests at a family visitation Thursday December 15th from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P. M. at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
He was born to James and Leah Fox Meyer October 15, 1928 in Slapout, Oklahoma.
He was raised as a young child in Slapout before moving to Enid for a brief time.
The family moved to Waukomis where he was raised and educated graduating from High School in 1946.
After high school, he worked as a ranch hand and mechanic before enlisting in the United States Navy on August 8, 1950. He married Hazel Williams August 24, 1952 in Enid.
He served his country with distinction during the Korean War as a (ME2) Metal Smith 2nd Class, and was Honorably discharged on June 16, 1954.
He returned to Waukomis and worked as an implement and auto mechanic.
He owned and operated D&M Auto repair and salvage. He was also a rural route mail carrier for over 20 years retiring in 1996.
He was a gentle man dedicated to his God, his family and his community.
He was a longtime, active and instrumental member and choir member of the Waukomis United Methodist Church. (Rev. John Hauser was his pastor) Recently he had become a fellowship member at Grace Ministries Church of Enid where Pastor Carl Roberts is his Pastor.
He was a member of the Waukomis Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 25 years.
He had a passion for music and was a gifted guitar player and singer.
After his retirement he hand built a Model A pickup truck part by part himself.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 64 years of the home; Sons, Jerry Meyer Sr. and David Meyer Sr. and his wife Debbie; Daughters, Teresa Sissney and husband Raymond and Mary Meyer; nine grandchildren, Jerry Jr., James, Justin, David Jr., Michelle, Jon, Ashley, Suzanne, Amber and Leahton; 19 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Memorials may be made in Bob Meyer’s honor in lieu of flowers to Grace Ministries church or to Son Grace Music Ministries (SGMM) with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
