Dan Mitchell, Jr. M.D.

February 17, 1930 — February 26, 2017

A Celebration of Life Service for Dan Mitchell Jr. M.D., 87, will be held at 1 :00 p.m. Thursday,
March 2, 2017 in the First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Andrew Philip Long officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Dan was born February 17,1930, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Dan and Ruth Mitchell and passed
away February 26,2017. He graduated from Enid High in 1947. He attended Vanderbilt
University for three years. He volunteered to join the Army during the Korean War and became
a member of the 325th Hospital Training Unit originally stationed at the Presidio. He was very
proud of the continuing and lasting bond of friendships during his military service. Following this
service he continued his education at Central State University and University of Oklahoma
School of Medicine, graduating in 1958. He did an internship at the University of Arkansas and
residency in Radiology at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center. He was a Fellow of the
American College of Radiology. A post residency fellowship followed at the Armed Forces
Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Maryland. His medical practice took him to Montana and
Oklahoma. In Enid, he established Springs Radiology and formed a partnership with Dr. David
Russell and Dr. Fred Long.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and member of
the most recent Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC). Dan was an early advocate of the
Saturday Manna program and continued to serve and support until failing health. He also
volunteered for Mobile Meals. He was a member of the Enid Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris
Fellow. He served on the executive board of St Mary's and Bass Baptist Hospital (now Integris),
serving as chairman of the executive board of Bass. During this time, he was one of the driving
forces to establish the Radiation Therapy Department at Bass which serves all of northwest
Oklahoma. He served many years on the Metropolitan Planning Commission and Historic
Preservation Committee. He helped establish the Aquatic Club of Enid and for many years
weekends were filled with officiating or driving to swim meets across the state. He was the longtime volunteer medical director of Autry Technology Center and is the namesake of their Radiography Center.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donita, and five children, Stephen, Kimberly, Patrick
(Teresa), Michael (Katya) Mitchell and Nancy (Kevin) Mitchell Glover; nine grandchildren,
Amanda, Ashley, Laura, Ayanna, Miles, Olive Mitchell, Jace, Carsten, Lucas Glover and many
nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark, a brother Billy, and a half-brother Dale
Squires.

Memorials may be made in his name to the First Presbyterian Church, Manna Program or the
Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
