Amy graduated from Edmond Memorial High School on May 26, 1970.  While in college at Phillips University in Enid, OK, she met her future husband Edward Neil Schovanec of Waukomis. The couple married on January 20th, 1973 and relocated to South Dakota where Amy completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education on May 17, 1975 at Huron College.  After residing in South Dakota for two years, Ed and Amy returned to Waukomis, OK to raise their three children, Matthew, Emily, and Erin.

While working and raising her family, Amy completed her Master of Education in Elementary Education from Phillips University on April 26, 1987.

In addition to teaching, Amy was passionate about sewing, quilting, and playing the piano/organ at local churches in Enid (First United Methodist Church, Central Christian Church, Willow View United Methodist Church, Christian Church of the Covenant and St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church). Amy retired in 2011 after teaching for 28 years. While retired, she had time to pursue her love for quilting, gardening, and grandparenting.
