The services celebrating and honoring the life of Anita “Joy” Smith, 91, of Enid will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday July 31, 2024, in the Baptist Village Chapel with Reverend Debbie Smith officiating. Burial will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday August 1, 2024, in the Elmhurst Cemetery of Guymon with Pastor Kason Oakes officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.
Joy was born April 12, 1933, to Thomas and Laura Harris on the Oklahoma side of Hitchland, Texas and passed from this life July 26, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.
She was raised and educated in Guymon, Oklahoma where she married George A. Smith on July 19, 1951. The couple was stationed in San Diego, California when George was sent to serve his country in the Korean War, at this time she returned to Guymon where the couple made their home. Joy worked for TG&Y as well as Tri-State Supermarket and later began her career with the County Assessor's office where she worked until retirement at the age of 72.
She always grew the most beautiful roses and maintained her own yard until well into her eighties. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, making her own clothing and was an insatiable cook and baker and was well known for her wonderful pies.
Joy is survived by two sons Danny Smith and wife Debbie of Branson, Missouri and Pat Smith and wife Karla, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and one sister, Janice Ballard of VanAlystine, Texas.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Smith; one son, Mike Smith; three brothers; and six sisters.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Dementia Society of America with Brown-Cummings, serving as custodian of the funds.
