Carol Ann Outhier

August 15, 1952 — April 15, 2020

The memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Carol Ann Outhier, 67, of Stillwater, formerly of Enid will be held at a later date. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home

Carol was born on August 15, 1952, to Albert “Bud” Campbell and Elizabeth “Betty” Kassik Campbell and passed from this life in her home on April 15, 2020

She married Steve Outhier on May 11, 1975, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Enid’s Weldon Park Bird Sanctuary. They lived for a short time in the Stillwater, OK, area before moving to Enid, OK, in 1976, where she began her career in education. Their son Jay Philip Outhier was born there in 1983. In 2003, they relocated to Stillwater, OK.

Carol attended high school in Alva, Oklahoma, earned her Bachelor’s degree at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and her Master’s in

Education at Phillips University. She pursued additional graduate studies at Oklahoma State University.

Carol spent a lifetime in service to others. She taught for more than 30 years in the Enid Public Schools system, first in Elementary Physical Education and her last 11 years in Adapted Physical Education for children with special needs, a mission dear to her heart. She helped develop national accreditation standards for certification in Adapted Physical Education and often conducted teacher training sessions in the discipline. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s she coached several Enid Junior High boys and girls state championship tennis teams. After retirement, she volunteered as an English as a Second Language instructor through OSU and taught Mahjong through OSU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

Carol loved long walks with her dog Sophie, gardening, traveling, theater, golf, bridge, and mahjong. She especially loved trips to visit Jay in Princeton, where they would explore the area and take in NYC’s restaurants, museums and shows. And Carol loved people - she was always ready to lend a hand, welcome a new neighbor, tend to an ailing friend, teach neighborhood kids to jump rope - whenever she was needed, she was there with a bright smile and positive attitude.

She leaves behind her husband Steve, their son Jay in Princeton, NJ,  brothers Ken Campbell (Elsie) and Keith Campbell (Carol), sisters Kathy Chaplin,  Bea (Mrs. David) McCune, and Marilyn (Mrs. Wayne) Johnson, mother-in-law Effie Outhier, brothers-in-law Rick Outhier and Phil Outhier (Linda), and sister-in-law Melanie Outhier, and a large number of dearly loved nieces and nephews.

Memorials in her name may be made to Our Daily Bread of Stillwater, The O.S.U Department of Theatre, or just to reach out to someone that needs help with an act of  kindness with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
