Curtis Carson

January 8, 1956 — June 23, 2024

The services celebrating and honoring the life of Curtis Carson, of Ponca City, are pending under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

Curtis Allen Carson passed quietly and unexpectedly on June 23, 2024 at his home in Ponca City, OK.

Curtis was born January 8th, 1956 to Richard and Florence (Lawson) Carson.

He attended Ponca City schools and graduated the ROTC program and High School with the Class of 1975.

He worked several jobs over his lifetime including; working alongside his Dad in the family plumbing business (Carson Plumbing), Modern Supply, driving for the County, driving wreckers for Jay Warner Wrecker Service, and most recently retired from Cable One.

Most of his free time was spent tinkering in his garage on vehicles and toys. He also collected and maintained guns and often enjoyed a good day of target practice. He always had CB radios and carried his handle, “Bandit”, throughout his life. He was an excellent bowler and enjoyed playing for decades. He loved music and instilled that in his girls.

He had three daughters he loved and growled at often; Cassie, Crissie, and Sunie Dawn. Curtis was proud of his girls and their families, often speaking highly of them even when they were frustrating to him.

Curt had a sly grin and a dimpled smile that you couldn’t help but notice. We will remember his chuckle and miss his orneriness.

He was often referred to as a Big Ol Teddy Bear, in part because he was a bear of a man and growled or grumped out loud and often, but also because he had a soft spot for those around him, fiercely protective and not willing to hold a grudge against those he held most dear.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, his siblings, and his friends-doing simple things like fishing, riding motorcycles, working on things, time in the pool and backyard BBQs, or just visiting.

Curt leaves behind three daughters: Sunie Stolhand and her husband Rick, Cassie Johnson and her partner Jarred Fry, and Crissie Carson all of Ponca City, OK.

He has eight Grandchildren: Dalton White, Austin Fry (and wife Sadie), Jamie Stolhand, Madisyn Fry, Adrianne Johnson, Kendra Stolhand, Danica Swinford, and Iah Swinford, all currently residing in Oklahoma. Also, one sister, Connie Hardiman and her husband Mike of Bartlesville Ok and one brother, Mark Carson and his wife Sally of Ponca City, Ok. Alongside several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. He was particularly close to his Uncle Steve Lawson and wife Martha who currently reside in Ponca City, OK.

His Father Richard Carson, Mother Florence (Lawson) Carson , grandparents David and Alpha Carson and Azem and Florence (Gee) Lawson, and several aunts and uncles passed on before him.

A small gathering, to celebrate his life, will take place at a later date TBD, as he wasn’t a man who liked a big fuss.

Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family online at WWW.Brown-Cummings.com.
