Don Arlen Johnson

The Memorial services celebrating and honoring the life of Don Arlen Johnson, 91 of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 28, 2022 in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Kenneth Gabrielse officiating. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Don was born April 13, 1931, to Clarence Johnson and Tharesa Gibson in Alva, Oklahoma and passed from this life June 23, 2022, in Enid, Oklahoma.

He was raised and educated in Cherokee and Nescatunga, Oklahoma graduating from Cherokee High School with the class of 1949. He then attended Northwestern where he was an All-American in both football and basketball. He then Joined the United States Navy. While in Time Square in New York City he met Dorothy “Dottie” Soffel. The couple was married July 20, 1952, in the First Presbyterian Church of Catskill, New York. After being honorably discharged the couple moved to Alva, Oklahoma before making their home in Enid. He worked for Bank Lumber Co. until his retirement in 1976; he then owned and operated “Johnson Woodcrafts Company” specializing in restoration. He was a master craftsman and woodworker until the time of his death. He was a very passionate fisherman. He was a long-time member of the Enid First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter Jana Gabrielse and husband Kenneth, two sons Jeff and wife Nitta, Rob and wife Sharla; grandchildren, Mathew and wife Brandy, Andrea Laitano and husband Ronald, Kendra Moxley and husband Jason, and Kristin Jeanes and husband Zack; great grandchildren, Adelaide, Patrick, Austin, Tyson, Elizza, Lukas, Ediwias (sp?), Emery, Karson, and Kazly; and one brother Larry Johnson, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Johnson; and three brothers.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the Warriors 4 freedom with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
