Adele Emmons

July 2, 1918 — July 13, 2020

The Services Celebrating and Honoring the life of Adele Emmons, 102, of Enid will be held privately. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Adele was born on July 2, 1918 to Thomas Jefferson and Audrey Gayle Phipps.  She was an only child who never quit dreaming of having brothers and sisters.  She was quite the tomboy, who loved wearing her coveralls and her bowl haircut.  She loved climbing as far up a tree as she could with her books and spending hours reading.

In 1933 she met THE love of her life, Wayne Emmons. She began attending church with his family and was baptized in the Lawton Central Baptist Church that same year. Wayne graduated from Lawton High School in 1934, she followed in 1935, and they were married Dec. 31, 1936.

Adele went to work for SW Bell her first year out of high school and continued there until Wayne graduated from OU in 1939.  Their first daughter, Gayle Wayne, was born in Lawton in 1942, followed by Nancy Ann in 1944.  The family moved to Enid in 1946.

Adele was a real “people person” and loved working with the public.  She worked for many years at Thorpe’s downtown as head of the Bridal Dept., followed by her time at the Willow’s Tree, and later the Gift Box.  She retired at the age of 86.  During her time at the Willow’s Tree she began knitting and needlepoint and was still knitting up until the time of her death.  Her family and friends were blessed throughout the years with gifts of sweaters, scarves, afghans, quilts, and wonderful needlepoint pillows and framed works; all of which will be cherished and passed down for many years to come, as just one remembrance of her love and giving heart.

She was a special inspiration to her granddaughters, who love her and feel her loss so deeply.  They will cherish their memories forever and are so grateful she was their Granny Del.

Everyone knew where she was at 6:30 in the evening, and if possible, family would join her in watching Wheel of Fortune.

Adele celebrated her 102 nd birthday on July 2, and her family will be forever thankful that she had a wonderful day, receiving 81 birthday cards and being so thrilled and happy to be so remembered and loved

How do you sum up a person’s life in a few paragraphs?  How do you say all the great things you want people to know about her?

She was just a precious little woman who spread joy wherever she went.  She was so ready to meet her heavenly Father and be with her beloved husband again, that one must be happy for her in her final journey.  This is a very unremarkable life story of a very remarkable woman.

She was preceded by her parents, her husband Wayne in 1972, and her son-in-law Dea Entriken in 2018.

Adele is survived by her daughter Gayle Franklin (Ron) of Enid; her daughter Nancy Entriken of Enid; her granddaughter America Ann Fulmer (Scott) and their children Thomas Wayne and Liberty Joie of Enid; and her granddaughter Amber Adele Krizman (Andrew) and their daughter Megan Adele of Tampa, FL.

Memorials may be made to Enid SPCA, Furever Friends of Enid, or Enid Animal Shelter, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as Custodians of the funds.

The family would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Greenbrier Assisted Living for the exceptional care and kindness they provided.

Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family online at WWW.Brown- Cummings.com
