George Childress

The funeral services Celebrating and Honoring the life of George Childress, 77, of Enid will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday April 24, 2021 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. The services will be live streamed on the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Facebook page.  Military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp. Cremation will follow. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

George was born April 25, 1943 to Hiley Jewel and Lucretta Faye (Denney) Childress in Artesia New Mexico and passed from this life April 19, 2021 at his home in Enid.

He was raised and educated in Hobbs, New Mexico. He then moved with his family to Texas. At a young age he enlisted in the United States Marines Corp. He served his country during the Korean War and two tours during the Vietnam conflict as a Sniper. He then served as a Computer Programmer at Camp Pendleton California. After his honorable discharge serving his country, he moved to Byng, Oklahoma to break ground and homestead his own land. While developing his homestead he also worked at the Ada water plant. In 1978, he moved to Drummond.  There, he began his second marriage with Frances Louise Budzene becoming his wife on October 29, 1982 in Drummond where the couple made their home.  He worked at GEFCO and as a rancher. He later worked for the Bison Coop and then Hanor Industries until his retirement in 2009.

He enjoyed being in nature, fishing, camping, Big Wave long board surfing, free diving, gardening, reading, watching John Wayne movies, and most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, of 38 years, Francis Childress, of the home; three daughters Tambra and husband Rob Gifford, of Norman, Teresa and husband David Branscum, of Ada, and Shelly Hoos; one son Scott and Wendy Roberts, of Springdale, Arkansas; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two sisters Anne Teel and Elaine Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Syble and Vee, and one daughter Stephanie.
