Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the Death Angel called to rest our beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend, Lester C. White.
He was born June 24, 1930, to the late Ezell and Louella Chandler- White, in Clay County, Mississippi. Lester was one of 15 children, in which 11 have preceded him in death. As a child, he attended Beesley Baptist Church (with his mother) and sometimes Hopewell Baptist (with his father). Back then he liked to attend the weekly revivals. Church members would bring covered dishes and it was like a big family picnic. A country boy at heart, there was nothing he couldn’t tell you about farming. He was a family-oriented man who loved being around family. He loved baseball and even played on a team of mostly family members, who would travel from town to town playing games. Most of the siblings headed to Chicago, Illinois, where a great deal of family members still reside.
L.C. married at a young age, which lasted about 3 years. Later he worked and lived in Chicago, for a short time and then moved to Florida. Having previously known Susie Anner Walker-Ford, from growing up in Mississippi, the two became reacquainted. The union relocated the couple to Enid, Oklahoma around 1960. The lifelong partners had 8 children together (Kathleen Martin – Houston, TX, James Ford – Enid, OK, Timmy Ford – Enid, OK, Leslie Ford – Enid, OK, Sara Moore - Enid, Carol Massenburg – Kernersville, NC, Nancy Ford – Enid, OK and Joan Ford – Enid, OK), 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Once settled in Enid, Oklahoma, Lester became a member of New Light Baptist Church. He was employed by Helen Oven for 50+ years, as the property caretaker. He was no stranger to hard work on “the farm”. After the property was sold, he continued his employment there, with the Austin Family. He was not just an employee for these families, he was a significant part of their families. To this very day, the children and grandchildren cherish him.
Dr. White had never met a stranger. He was a hard worker, quick-witted, a sharp dresser, warm-hearted, generous and most of all loved. L.C. was a devoted companion, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed.
Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family online at WWW.Brown-Cummings.com.
