A celebration of life for Lucile “Lucy” Mitchell will be Friday, November 18, 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Enid under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Lucy was born July 20, 1925, to Otto E. and Goldie Flower Barber in Hugoton, Kansas and passed from this life October 29, 2022 in Norman, Oklahoma.
She graduated from Hugoton High School, attended college at Ft. Hayes, then taught school in various one room schools in Western Kansas. She met Robert D. “Bob” Mitchell and they married October 12, 1945. They shared 70 years together. Lucy and Bob owned and operated Mitchell Norge Village and Mitchell Maytag for over 20 years in Liberal, KS. Lucy belonged to First Presbyterian Church in Liberal where she served in various roles. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and camping in their motor home. Bob and Lucy moved to Wagoner, OK in 2003 to be near family, building a home on Ft. Gibson Lake. They enjoyed fishing and new friends in First United Methodist Church until 2013 when they moved to “The Commons” in Enid. Her life was marked by self-giving love, a deeply respectful faith, and the ethic of hard work.
Lucy is survived by her son, the Rev. Randy Mitchell and Helen, of Stigler, OK, grandsons Michael Mitchell and Amber, of Duncan, OK, Stephen Mitchell and Suzanne of Norman, OK and five great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include her sister, Ralene Crippen and Terry of Tuttle, OK, sister-in-law Betty Ann Knize of Prescott, AZ along with extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four brothers.
