The funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Mildred Avery, 93, of Enid, will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday June 24, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Enid with Pastor Thomas House officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Mildred was born March 29, 1924 in Bishop, Texas to Minnie and Henry Thiele. She was raised and educated in Bishop public schools, graduating from Bishop High School with the class of 1941. She attended business school in Houston, Texas and moved to San Antonio to work. There she met Fred Avery who was in the US Army. On November 25, 1943, she married Fred Avery in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Concordia near Bishop, Texas. The couple lived in San Antonio where their first child, Frances, was born. After the war they moved to Bishop, Texas where he was employed by The Chicago Corporation. They were blessed with a son, Kenneth, and daughter, Judy, born in Kingsville, TX.  In 1955 they moved to Enid where Fred was employed by Champlin. They were blessed in 1963 with a daughter, Tamie.  They joined Redeemer Lutheran Church in 1955 where she was a very active member. She was also active in Mary Martha, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League chapter at Redeemer. She also served as church secretary for many years. She was a long-time volunteer at St. Mary’s in Enid.

She is survived by daughters: Frances and husband Robert Wittnebel of Nassau, MN, Tamie and husband David Worthington of Fayetteville, GA, Son: Ken Avery and Jim Skeen of San Francisco, CA, son-in-law: Thomas Pyle of Franklin, NC, eight Grandchildren, and thirteen Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both parents, husband, and daughter Judy, son-in-law Wayne Irsch, and brother Henry Thiele.

Memorials can be made in her honor to Redeemer Lutheran Church with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
