Surrounded by his loving family and his ever-faithful dog Lucy, Boyd Whitson Freeman passed away in his home in Enid, Oklahoma on December 9 th , 2017. Boyd was born on September 7 th , 1928 to J. Boyd and Ruth Whitson Freeman. Boyd spent his childhood in Enid, Oklahoma growing up on S. Hayes Street. Boyd attended school at McKinley Elementary School, Emerson Junior High School and graduated from Enid High School in 1946. Boyd then attended the University of Oklahoma where he studied Business.

After graduating from OU, Boyd returned to Enid to assist his ailing father in the family business, Freeman Equipment Company. As the third generation of the Freeman family involved in Freeman Equipment Company, Boyd made many friends as he sold trucks throughout the state of Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

When he wasn’t busy selling trucks Boyd loved to be out hunting, enjoying quiet hikes at his farm, watching trains, flying airplanes or reading a good book about World War Two or a novel written by Earnest Hemingway. Boyd was always an active man about town, but always had time for a smile, a handshake and a quick hello. Everyone who met Boyd respected him for his uncompromised passion and integrity.

During his early years Boyd developed a great love of flying. He could often be seen at the airport, eating at the restaurant, or taking his Bonanza up for a ride. Flying was a great passion in Boyd’s life and he would always stop to listen to a great aviation story.

Boyd married Jill Athey in July, 1966. Soon after they got married they moved to what would be Boyd’s final home in Willow West. Later, Boyd met his second wife and child hood sweetheart, Ruth Wiles, at a class reunion. They were then married in 1976 in Dallas, Texas. Boyd and Ruth traveled all over the world together and Ruth was the love of Boyd’s life. Ruth left us on December 31, 2014, and no doubt Boyd is relieved to be reunited with her.

Boyd is survived by two children, Ruthie “Ruth” Freeman of New York and Robert and Carrie Freeman of Des Moines, Iowa. Boyd is also survived by seven grandchildren. They include Felicia Freeman of Chicago, Illinois, Sarah Freeman of Chicago, Illinois, Jacob Freeman of Salt Lake City, Utah. Other grandchildren include Jared Freeman of Salt Lake City, Utah and Elizabeth Freeman of Los Angeles, California. Just when Boyd thought his Grand parenting days were over, two additional grand children came around, Amy Freeman and Abbie Freeman of Des Moines, Iowa.

Boyd was a loving step father to a number of other children that were a part of his life.

Boyd was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Wiles Freeman and his younger brother Whitson Freeman.

The family would like to thank all of Dad’s wonderful caregivers who went beyond their duties to keep Dad and his dog, Lucy, comfortable and cozy.
