Orrin Wayne Munger was born March 9, 1941, to Thomas Orrin Munger Jr. and Eleanor Rose (Popp) Munger in Great Bend, KS and passed from this life March 12, 2025 in Enid, OK.

Early in life, the Munger family lived in Perry, OK and Ada, OK where Orrin and his siblings, brother, Jimmy Bob and sister, Kathy attended Glenwood School. It was there that Orrin first joined the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 6, acquiring the “God & Country” medal alongside his brother, an effort that would later take him to the rank of Star Scout. At the age of 6, Orrin and his family settled in Enid, OK where they attended the public school. Orrin excelled at sports and passionately played for his school's football and basketball teams. He was a proud member of Enid High School's class of 1959. Before graduating, Orrin joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard at the age of 17 and thereafter reported to Fort Jackson U.S. Army base near Columbia, SC for basic training and six months of active duty. He faithfully served in the national guard and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Orrin attended Oklahoma State University for two years, then transferred to Phillips University where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1966. He then ventured to Tulsa, OK to work for the Pan American Oil Company for several years before returning to Enid to assist with and later take over his father’s seed business. Thomas Munger Seed Company was successfully operated for decades and thrived until 1984. With entrepreneurial spirit, Orrin with his first wife Vicki, opened T-Shirts Plus, later known as Downtown Threads. In 1991, determined to exploit his knowledge and experience in agriculture, Orrin began a career as a crop adjuster and worked with several major insurance companies during his tenure. After 30 years of inspecting and evaluating crops, he retired in 2021 at the age of eighty. He loved walking the fields with growers and providing support for the local farming community.

Orrin married Vicki Blaser in 1969. Together they raised two wonderful children, Blaser and Manda Munger. They divorced in 1991.

In 2006, Orrin married his longtime friend, Janet Rhodes. He adored her and their time together and was blessed by her care through the end of his life.

Orrin was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed cycling, hiking and mountain climbing. He ran 10 marathons in a five-year period. He climbed several of Colorado’s fourteeners in his lifetime, some more than once, not the least of which was Mt. Princeton where he climbed with both sons on separate occasions: first with future step-son Jeff, again with son Blase a few years later. A cherished memory of Orrin’s was when Blase saved his father’s life on the mountain trail by grabbing the backpack he was wearing, preventing a potentially hazardous fall of several feet.

Orrin was a fervent and dedicated Oklahoma State Cowboys fan. He loved his Cowboys. He would go to every home game possible and could tell you most of the players stats without hesitation. He loved sharing this excitement with his daughter Manda, who would often accompany him to watch a football or basketball game in Stillwater.

He believed in providing time for the things he valued. Whether as a member of the OSU Posse or serving on the Chisholm Public School board, he wanted to share these passions with others. He was also a proud member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. He was a lifelong believer in environmental protection and conservation and donated annually to these causes.

He is survived by his wife Janet Rhodes Munger, son Blaser (Robin) Munger, daughter Manda Munger, step-daughter Leah (Mike) Braly and step-son Jeff (Ellie) Stine as well as his Aunt Gleny and grand-children Finley and Barrett Munger, Hunter and Logan Braly, and Oliver and Iris Stine.

He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Eleanor Munger, his sister Kathy Lain, his brother Jim Munger and his step-son James Stine.

He is also survived by many other friends and family and his two kitties, Trouble and Sissy. The ashes of his beautiful pets Missy and Lydia will be interred with him.

Orrin requested that memorials given in his honor be directed to the Hospice Circle of Love and the Enid Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
