Robert "Bob" Hoppe, Sr.

The graveside service celebrating and honoring the life of Robert “Bob” R. Hoppe, Sr., 92, of Enid, will be held 10:00 AM Saturday May 30, 2020 in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Susan Southall of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Masks will be required. Bob was born to Edward and Velma Hoppe July 30, 1927 in Detroit Michigan. He was raised, educated and confirmed in Detroit. In 1945 at the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Army spending 2 years in Japan and then to California in 1947. He reenlisted in 1948 returning again to Japan and becoming a part of the 77th Field Artillery. Soon, the Korean War broke out and he served in the Korean war earning a Bronze Star for his time there. He also received a WW11 Victory Medal for his earlier service and an Army occupation medal. In 1952 he married Martha Skinner in Raton, N.M. and remained married until her passing in 1996. After his service to his country he moved to Detroit to make his home. He later lived in Divide, CO.,  Wichita, KS. And Chicago, IL.  In 1966 the family moved to Oklahoma working first at a garage and later a processing plant in Fairview, then as a salesman at Gold Spot Dairy. He later worked for 23 years in various positions at Vance Air Force Base, retiring in 1993 as housing administrator. In 1997 he met Mara Grey and on April 18, 1998 they married  in Eureka Springs, Ar. The couple enjoyed traveling especially to attend Detroit Tigers baseball games. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, always enjoyed golf and was a member of the first united Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Mara of the home, Children; Donald (Suzi) Skinner ; Bruce(Barbara) Hoppe , Teresa (Greg) Meis ; Barry Hoppe. 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.  Survivors also include  Shelly Hoppe,  Jeff Suttmiller, and Mara’s children , Raylene(Gary)Dick, Milton (Beverly)Riggs, Arlen(Lucinda)Riggs, 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild... He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Children; Robert R. Hoppe, Jr., William Hoppe, Sheryl Suttmiller, and a grandaughter. Memorials may be made in his name to UMCOR for the United Methodist Church with Brown-Cummings Serving as custodians of the funds.
