Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

Verna was born May 18, 1926, the only child of  Walter and Gertrude Penner Jantz on the family farm near Carrier, Oklahoma and passed from this life September 2, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.

She was raised and educated between Carrier and Goltry and attended school in Carrier. While attending Carrier High School she met the love of her life Marcus “Mark” Henthorn. The couple married their senior year March 15, 1944, in Fairview, Oklahoma, from this union came two children, Jan and Wes. During his senior year Mark enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. The couple lived in Arizona and Harlingen, Texas for a time while Mark was training. The war ended prior to him being sent overseas, at this time the couple moved to Enid, Oklahoma where they started their family. When her children were young, she stayed home and cared for them.

When the children were in junior high school she entered the workforce, working at Central National Bank and later in various Doctors offices in administrative roles, which she loved because she was able to not only do paperwork but also interact with people.

Throughout the years she loved to cook for people and invite them into her home. She enjoyed shopping and was a true “fashionista” even partaking in Dillard’s Fashion Shows with Golden Oaks Village. She enjoyed “Junking” with her granddaughter and playing the piano, her dream was fulfilled when she was able to play for church services at Golden Oaks. She also enjoyed arranging floral pieces, painting China pieces, and making sweatshirts and jewelry. She received her greatest joy in caring for her family.

She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church for many years. Her faith remained strong for her entire life; she had an innocent child-like trust in God.

The couple moved to Golden Oaks, now Baptist Village,  when Mark became ill in 2005 where she enjoyed living until the time of her passing.

She is survived by her children Jan and Tom Richards and Wes Henthorn; two grandchildren, Julie Matula and Kelly and Grant Miller; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Ryan Miller; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Mark Henthorn, her parents, Walter and Gerturde Jantz; daughter in law Wilma Henthorn, and grandson in law Greg Matula.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Baptist Village Chapel fund with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
